I wish I could speak to people’s hearts. I wish I could move them with words and stories so that they could see what I’m seeing. I wish I could speak in such a way their pain would heal and their tomorrows would be slightly better.
I want to speak a language that can change people’s minds, because I’ve somehow managed to make them feel what it’s like to walk around in different shoes.
I wish to speak a language that seeps beyond the boundaries we create for ourselves. That separate you from me, us from other.
There is a great t-shirt someone created for seasoned travellers to distant lands. On the front are images people can point to so that others could understand what they needed without using words they couldn’t understand.
The fun and magic came in the interaction, as people communicated with each other. Sharing needs and ideas without language getting in the way. Getting down to the basics of how we spend our moments with one another.
It is language that uses more than words. That encompasses understanding and good humour. A desire to help and connect to another so different to you.
These words we speak. These letters we read. The signs some share. They’re just a tool to forge that greater connection.
Please teach me the way to the heart. I want to show people they are loved and valued beyond life itself. That is the language I would wish to speak, if they’d only teach it to me.
If I speak in the tongues of men or of angels, but do not have love, I am only a resounding gong or a clanging cymbal.
1 Corinthians 13:1

I feel like it’s the rare type of person who can even come close to speaking a language like that

What a lovely perspective. I, too, would love to speak a language like this.

One of my favourites. Also a strong rebuke. Good to know God’s love never fails.
