Last week, two climate change protesters threw the contents of two cans of tomato soup on this Van Gogh painting.
They also glued themselves to the wall.
The painting was thankfully clean when I visited the National Gallery yesterday.
The only evidence of the protesters was the slight change in the wall colour where they painted over the glue stain.

I’m so glad they were able to get it off. Makes no sense to me- what does Van Gogh have to do with it?! I think there was another painting in the past week?

Was there? How bananas is that!

Not sure why Van Gogh would inspire such a protest… Because it is an oil painting?

I think it was to draw attention to climate change. But I think it ended alienating more people than drawing in more support.

Yes, it would make more sense to protest at a petroleum refinery or tanker dock, IMHO.

They are “culture terrorists”. I don’t see any meaning in their actions. Just like kids throwing tantrum when they cannot get their favourite toys. Glad to see that the painting is safe!

Me too. If stopping climate change was the point, I’m just not sure if they achieved what they wanted.

They certainly got police attention 🙂 But I wonder whether they will be jailed. I found them annoying and selfish. They don’t care who will have to clean their mess.

I’m just not sure what the protest achieved? Luckily the artwork was behind glass.

I’m not sure either. But the painting wasn’t behind glass at the time. It’s still not behind glass now. However security was pretty strict before we went in yesterday.

I thought I read somewhere it was behind glass. I’m so glad it wasn’t damaged.
